Elite Ladders has a powerful UserGroup feature which can make your site money whilst offering your site visitors fantastic features that will make them stick around.
Pay-to-Play
You can set up Pay-to-Play Ladders AND Tournaments. There are no limits. You could set up a $0.50 entry or a $100 per team entry. You collect the money via an automated Paypal procedure. Its up to you whether or not you then wish to offer prizes.
Private Entry
You can set up private Usergroup Ladders AND Tournaments. This means you can actually set them up and the only people that are allowed to join are the ones that you, as Admin, place in that UserGroup. Now, this opens up all sorts of possibilites. You could charge a clan and allow them to have their own private Ladder or Tournament. How about offering a sponsor the chance to run their own event!? They could pay for it, add their branding and sponsor prizes or you could take a cut.
Cash Challenges
A member came up with an ingenius way to allow members to have 1v1 challenges for Cash. Brilliant.
He set up a Group called Singles Challenges and then advertised the fact that members of his site can take others on in 1v1 matches for cash. Basically, he set up a load of 1v1 Tournaments with Paypal cash entry for differing amounts to suit differing budgets. Members would browse through the list and join one, and when the second player signs up its Game On! The match gets played and reported.
This can work for teams as well, of course.
This is where it gets exciting. Lets say he charges each player $10 and announces a prize of $15 to the winner. on the back of one match being played he pockets $5! They enjoy a strong challenge and he places their name in a list he created on a custom page (easy..) to give them kudos amongst their peers.
If you ONLY had 100 members and ONLY 2 of them played one match a day, that would be $5 x 30 = $150 and youve just paid for the script.
I hate to sound like a salesman but there is serious potential here. Of course, you can just play for fun and you should be aware that this form of online pay may not be allowed in certain regions or states.
Other ways to make money
As you can see, there are many blocks and spaces, and opportunities to add more blocks, which can contain Advertisements. These can be on the home page and only ever show on the home page or they could be site wide, such as on the right in this template example. You can fill them with Google Pay-per-Click Ads, affiliate Ads or Ads that other sites have paid you to display. Its all up to you, you can of course, remove these blocks and have no Ads or use the blocks for other things.
